EARLY LIFE
Born to Tell Stories
K. Rebecca Martin (born Karen Rebecca Martin, August 18, 1955) grew up in a strong Christian home in East Tennessee, the youngest of three sisters in a family that later grew with the adoption of a baby brother. Her father, J.P. Martin, and mother, Vivian Martin, raised her in a household where faith was foundational — a foundation that would quietly shape everything she would go on to create.
Her instinct for storytelling showed up early. As a child, she organized original productions in her grandparents' living room, cast her cousins, and charged her grandparents to watch. It wasn't just play — it was the first evidence of a gift she would spend the rest of her life giving away.
EDUCATION
Where Faith and Craft Meet
Martin graduated with honors from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, earning a bachelor's degree with a double major in Journalism and Theatre — a pairing that would define her professional voice: the precision of a writer married to the instincts of a performer.

She then earned a Master's degree in Religious Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky — not a detour from theatre, but a deepening of the faith perspective that would animate every script she would ever write.
NARROWAY PRODUCTIONS
A Definitive Legacy of Original Work
In 1996, Martin co-founded NarroWay Productions alongside Yvonne H. Clark — remarkably, a woman who grew up just twenty minutes away in Southwest Virginia, yet whom she never met until college. Together they built what would become the premier Christian dinner theatre of the South and the only year-round dinner theatre in the greater Charlotte, NC area.
As NarroWay's creative director, Martin writes, produces, and directs every original production. No two shows are alike. Stories range across time and setting — Biblical epics, 1920s tales, 1940s wartime dramas, modern-day narratives — each one shaped by her belief that great entertainment and genuine faith are not in conflict, but inseparable.
NarroWay shows are not Bible studies with a stage. They are fully realized original musicals — funny, moving, surprising, and genuinely enjoyable for all ages and backgrounds. Christian truth runs through every story, but always through great storytelling, never a lecture.
"God needed a pencil, and I had one in my hand."
LEGACY
A Cause, Not Just a Career
That quiet conviction has guided a lifetime of original theatrical work. Under Martin's creative direction, NarroWay has grown into one of the few continuously operating Christian theatre companies in the world — drawing guests from across the United States to a venue fifteen minutes from Charlotte, NC, that most of its visitors describe not as a theatre they attended, but as an experience that changed them.
NarroWay, as Martin has always said, is more than a theatre. It is a cause. And the pencil has never stopped moving.
THE GENESIS OF A CREATIVE CALLING
A Creative Partnership Born in Faith
The NarroWay story began during the founders' first week of college, where K. Rebecca Martin and Yvonne "Birdie" Clark first met. Their friendship took on a deeper dimension just months later when Rebecca was instrumental in leading Yvonne to her Christian faith. This spiritual bond formed the bedrock of a professional musical theatre team that has now flourished for over five decades.
Before establishing NarroWay Productions in 1996, the duo served on church staffs, where they began writing, producing, and touring original Christian musicals. Driven by a mission to take the Gospel beyond traditional church walls, they produced large-scale performances ranging from open-air shows at Myrtle Beach campgrounds to fully-staged productions at a leased state-park amphitheater. This early period of touring and site-specific theatre served as the testing ground for the signature Broadway-style productions that would eventually define the NarroWay stage.
THE MELODY TO THE STORY
Artistic Collaborator
While Rebecca pens the scripts, Yvonne brings the story to life through original musical composition. Their artistic collaboration is the foundation on which every NarroWay production stands.
