Chapter 12: The Footprints of God

basset hound in snowBIRDIE –
Rebecca and I served in two churches, the first for five years, the second for ten. But both of these churches also served us.

REBECCA –
They let us dream big! They allowed us to be unique! They were willing to try new things and do things in a new way!

BIRDIE—
They took ownership in the vision and gave us the space, resources, and support we needed to hone our skills.

REBECCA –
They were the guinea pigs, for which we are eternally grateful!

BIRDIE –
When we look back, NOW we can clearly see specific things God did to prepare us for NarroWay. As it was happening, it just seemed like “small stuff.”

BIRDIE –
Every Spring we made the 7-hour trip to Paducah, KY to record a soundtrack for a new musical.

1982 – Reflections
1983 – Prodigal Prince
1984 – Meet Me Here
1985 – Not Just Another Love Story
1986 – Papa, Me and the Gift of Love

REBECCA –
Year four I told my daddy that I felt led to write a show that was set during the days of World War II. He proudly served in the army during that war so I asked him to tell me about life back then. That’s when I wrote, “Not Just Another Love Story.”

Chapter 24: Edge of the Cliff

REBECCA –
It is a strange occurrence during the momentous occasions of life when crowds of people surround you, cheer you, love you. The noise diverts the fears. The gathering distracts from the repercussions of what just happened.

BIRDIE –
It was one thing to stand looking at this grand idea called the amphitheater, with everyone’s glorious anticipation of what it would be.
It was another when reality kicked in and we realized we were the ones who had to make it happen.

REBECCA –
In the three months during which we were transitioning between our church positions and full-time NarroWay, we continued the necessary business processes needed to get NarroWay on her feet, as well as some of the clean up work.

BIRDIE –
Chapter Thirteen tells how devastated we were when Joe and Tessie were called to leave the church where we served together to come to Charlotte. Though God did a mighty work independently with them, their presence, success and reputation in the Charlotte area was a strategic factor in NarroWay’s successful start-up.
